Simpson was coached by Ken Nixon at the Miami Swimming Club and won two gold medals at the Queensland Swimming Championships in 2009. Angie, his mother, also volunteered at the swimming club.

Tom and Alli are his younger siblings. During the summer of 2009, Simpson began recording songs in his bedroom for YouTube, performing Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours,” Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” and “Senorita,” The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back,” and his own songs “One” and “Perfect.” Shawn Campbell eventually spotted him on YouTube.

Professional Life

In December 2009, The 7.30 Report covered Simpson’s meteoric climb to fame. On May 15, 2010, he released his debut single, “iYiYi,” which includes American rapper, Flo Rida. It was published digitally on May 30, 2010. On June 30, 2010, the music video for “Yi Yi” was released. On September 20, 2010, the music video for Simpson’s second song, “Summertime,” was released.

In June 2010, Simpson relocated to Los Angeles to record his tracks with Atlantic Records and producer Shawn Campbell. Simpson made an appearance on Sunrise in the same month. The tour started on July 5, 2010, and ended on August 14, 2010.

It was also Simpson’s first time performing in front of an audience. Simpson sang a song called “Love So Strong” while on tour. Simpson revealed in an interview with Popstar Magazine that the song was inspired by “Back at home, a young lady. That’s all I have to say about it.” On December 4, 2010, Simpson’s official website revealed that an EP titled 4 U would be published on iTunes on December 21, 2010.

Simpson is now in the studio, working on tunes for his upcoming Atlantic Records full-length debut. He has been recording a rendition of The Strangeloves’ song “I Want Candy” for the upcoming live-action/CGI-animated film “Hop” since March 15, 2011. The movie’s theme tune will be his reworking of the classic.

Simpson’s second EP, Coast to Coast, was released on September 20, 2011. There were four tracks on the EP, as well as three singles. The EP also included All Day Simpson’s first charting single. “On My Mind,” the first song from “Coast to Coast,” was released on April 23rd. On May 23rd, the song was released on iTunes, and the music video was released on June 17th. Simpson and his manager, Matt Graham, directed the music video for “Angel.” “Coast to Coast” opened at #12 on the US Billboard 200 and #16 on the Australian Albums Chart.

Simpson’s second single “Wish U Were Here” was released as a digital download on August 7th, the same day as the music video. “Wish U Were Here” featuring up and coming pop singer and rapper Rebecca Marie Gomez (known as Becky G). The remixes of the song were released four days later.

Simpson’s debut album, Paradise, was released on October 2, 2012. There were one promotional single and two singles on the album. “So Listen,” a promotional track featuring T-Pain, was released. The Japanese version of “Paradise” has “So Listen” instead of the American version. “Got Me Good” and “Wish U Were Here” were Simpson’s two singles. The official music video for “Got Me Good” was released on June 5th.

“Surfer’s Paradise,” Simpson’s second album, was released in the summer of 2013. The album’s concept originated in Australia, where Simpson and his family resided. Simpson grew up on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia’s Surfer’s Paradise beach. Simpson stated that he knew exactly how he wanted this album to sound and that he wanted to contribute to the writing of each and every song. Cody released his first single from the album, “Pretty Brown Eyes,” in May of 2013. Many fans were angry at first since not every girl has “Brown Eyes,” but Simpson told them that it’s a “common eye color” and that the song isn’t just about brown-eyed beauties.

Simpson’s sister Alli, tour mate Ryan Beatty, friend and model Jessica Jarrell, and others appeared in the music video, which was released on April 22, 2013. The album’s second single was published on iTunes on June 19th, with the music video following two days later. Simpson has revealed that “La Da Dee,” the album’s first tune, will be the third single.
