Jewell Caples was born on 15 June 1968 in Inglewood, California. She was the second child born to her parents. Her mother was a stay at home mom and her father was a mechanic. As a child, she was shy and loved to sing. When she was five, her family moved to Carson, California.
It was there that she began to take an interest in music and started writing her own songs. Jewell has two sisters, Jamesina and Barbara. Jewell’s mother is African American and her father was of Native American descent.
